Career
Bell worked for Chubby Checker as a staff writer and tour manager. He contributed to the creation of their successes “La La Means I Love You” and “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind.” Later, he worked with Johnny Mathis, Teddy Pendergrass, Deniece Williams, and Elton John. Bell received his first Grammy in the “Best Producer of the Year” category in 1975. His other compositions include the Orlons’ “I Can’t Take It” and Linda Creed’s “You Make Me Feel Brand New.” He also orchestrated the strings for the O’Jays’ smash song “Back Stabbers” from 1972.
