In the brutal lyrics of her most recent single, Shakira makes direct reference to her former, Gerard Piqué.

The 45-year-old Colombian singer debuted “BZRP Music Session #53,” a new song with Argentine producer Bizarrap, on Thursday. The song has detailed lyrics regarding their breakup, its effects, and Piqué’s current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.

According to a translation from Billboard, Shakira sings on the upbeat Spanish song, “Sorry, I Already Took Another Plane / I’m Not Coming Back Here / I Don’t Want Another Disappointment,” seemingly alluding to her recent move from Barcelona to Miami with her and the 35-year-old former soccer star’s sons, Milan and Sasha. You act like a champion all the time, yet when I needed you, you delivered your worst performance.

She continues, “A she-wolf like me is not for people like you / A she-wolf like me is not for rookies / Sorry baby, I should have thrown you out a while ago,” alluding to her 2009 single “She Wolf,” which was released just before the two met in 2010. I’m too good for you, which explains why you’re dating a person who is similar to you.

On May 25, 2022, in Cannes, France, singer Shakira attends the showing of “Elvis” as part of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

Then, it appears that Shakira goes into even more specifics concerning their breakup. The singer seems to be referencing her on-going tax fraud trial in Spain when she sings, “You left me my mother-in-law as my neighbour / Media outlets at my door and in debt with the government.” Women don’t cry anymore because they cash in, according to the song “You Thought You Hurt Me, But You Made Me Stronger.”

Later on in the song, the Grammy winner appears to make remarks about Marti, Piqué’s girlfriend of 23 years. I don’t even know what happened to you / I wish you success with my purported substitute, she sings. “I’m worth twice as much as a 22-year-old. You bought a Rolex for a Casio. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You’re going too fast. Spend a lot of time working out, but your brain also needs some exercise.”

I’m too good for you, and that’s why you’re with someone just like you, Shakira sings in the chorus, which is repeated several times throughout the song.

On June 4, 2022, she and Piqué released a joint statement in which they revealed their separation after 11 years of marriage “We are sorry to announce that we are divorcing. Because the safety of our children is our top priority right now, we kindly request your respect for their privacy. I sincerely appreciate your consideration and respect.”

On May 18, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada, singer Shakira (R) and soccer player Gerard Pique attend the 2014 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

After Spanish news outlet El Periodico revealed that Piqué was residing separately from the singer and their children, word of their breakup spread.

In a post on Instagram earlier this month that was bilingually written in Spanish and English and addressed to her followers, Shakira expressed to them that those who have been betrayed “must persevere” to maintain their faith. “Time has a surgeon’s hands, even though our wounds are still open in this new year,” she wrote.

“Even if someone has betrayed us, we must still have faith in other people. Never lose sight of your value, even in the face of disrespect. since there are more excellent people than immoral ones. Empathy is more prevalent than indifference. Fewer people depart from our side than do those who remain on our side.”

The singer affirmed her view that suffering can spur development. The message stated, “Our tears are not in vain; they water the soil from which our future will sprout and they make us more human, so that even while experiencing heartbreak, we can still continue to love.
